What is Nursing Care?

Nursing care is a specialised type of support designed for individuals who have complex health needs or require continuous medical assistance.

Often provided in nursing home care settings, this care offers residents round-the-clock support from trained nurses and caregivers who are equipped to handle both medical and personal needs. 24-hour nursing care helps manage everything from medication and mobility assistance to more intensive needs that can arise due to long-term conditions or recovery from serious illnesses.

Nursing Care FAQs

The type of nursing care given will vary depending on the needs of the individual. However, at Westerton Care Home, we can provide a range of different nursing services from medication management and wound care, to help with activities of daily living and support with physical disabilities, mental health conditions and sensory impairment. We also make sure that residents are able to access all of our social trips and activities.

You should consider nursing care when any of the below starts to happen:

  • Worsening chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, or dementia
  • Difficulty performing activities of daily living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, or grooming
  • Recent falls, injuries, hospitalisations or emergency room visits
  • Significant weight loss or changes in appetite
  • Increased confusion or forgetfulness
  • Difficulty managing medications or complying with treatment plans
  • Need for specialised medical equipment or care, such as oxygen therapy or wound care

Our nursing team will assess the level of care that is required and provide advice on the most appropriate type of care for you or your loved one. It is important when making the decision to go into a care home to communicate openly with your family members and ensure that the person requiring care is involved in the decision-making process where possible.

Westerton Care Home is responsible for ensuring the safety of its residents. We achieve this by ensuring adequate staffing levels are provided, nursing staff are properly trained and qualified, protocols for infection control and medication management are implemented, and regular safety audits and assessments are conducted. We also adopt the relevant security measures in place to prevent unauthorised access and to protect the safety of our residents.

At Westerton Care Home, we require a 28-day notice period for residents receiving any of our long-term care types and are looking to move out. Our compassionate team are on hand around the clock to support you with your moving transition and answer any further questions you have.
