This month, Westerton Care Home has enthusiastically embraced the CAPA (Care About Physical Activity) initiative, providing an array of activities designed to keep residents active and engaged. From supporting Scotland in the Euros 2024 to participating in boxing and Fitbaw classes, the residents have enjoyed a vibrant and stimulating schedule.

The excitement kicked off with the Euros 2024, as residents gathered to cheer for Scotland. The communal atmosphere brought everyone together, fostering a sense of unity and national pride. The lively discussions and shared moments of joy during the matches highlighted the home's commitment to social and emotional wellbeing through shared experiences.

In collaboration with North Glasgow ABC BOXING, residents were given the opportunity to participate in a boxing class. This innovative approach to fitness was a hit, as it provided a fun and challenging way for residents to stay active. The professional trainers from North Glasgow ABC BOXING ensured that the sessions were safe, enjoyable, and adapted to meet the needs of all participants. The boxing classes were a testament to the home's dedication to offering diverse and engaging activities that cater to different interests and abilities.

The physical activity didn't stop there. Following the boxing sessions, residents took part in Fit-Baw classes, combining the joy of football with physical exercise. These classes, conducted both within the home and at North Glasgow ABC BOXING, were met with great enthusiasm. The residents relished the chance to engage in a sport they love, while also benefiting from the exercise and camaraderie it promotes.

These activities have brought immense happiness to the residents, who have eagerly shared their experiences and newfound skills with each other. The positive impact of staying active has been evident in the residents' increased energy levels and overall wellbeing.

Manager Heather Lundie, expressed her delight at the success of the month's activities; "Seeing our residents so engaged and happy has been wonderful. The CAPA initiative has truly enriched their lives, providing not only physical benefits but also enhancing their social connections and mental health. We are committed to continuing these activities and exploring new ways to support our residents in staying active and healthy."
