A day in the life of our administrator, Shane Simmons
Shane joined Westerton Care Home in December 2019 as an Administrator, coming to the care industry with an extensive background in retail administration, and delivering first-class customer service.
On a personal level, Shane has first-hand experience of caring for a close relative with dementia, so truly understands the importance of Westerton Care Home for its residents, as well as the families and friends of the home.
Professionally, Shane’s biggest achievement to date had been ensuring the effective running of three separate administrative areas during a five-year period. In his current role, Shane contributes to the smoothing running of Westerton and strives to make positive changes where possible.
In his spare time, Shane enjoys travelling around Scotland and often ties his travels in with a love of collecting single malt whiskies and visiting distilleries – a great talking point for the residents! Shane dreams of one day owning a campervan in which to travel throughout Scotland and Europe.
Shane is a published writer and musician who enjoys playing the guitar, bass and drums. He also actively supports the work of charities such as Alzheimer's Scotland and has previously taken part in their Memory Walks
Talking about a day in the life at Westerton, Shane had this to say: “I joined Westerton shortly before everything changed dramatically owing to global outbreak of COVID-19. It has been a challenging time for all, but as the office/administration team, we endeavour to do our best to help residents feel at ease.
“Whether this is just taking the time to chat, share a joke or encourage a smile, our team remains positive, caring, upbeat and diligent at all times.”
Shane continued: “Westerton Care Home is my first experience of working within the care industry and my first impressions of the home were that it offers superb facilities and has a fabulous, dedicated and friendly team.
“I was welcomed with open arms and was hugely impressed with the strong focus Westerton places on the home being for residents. It offers lots of homely touches, a varied activities programme and is incredibly welcoming for our residents, their friends and members of their family.
“I appreciate just how difficult it can be to make the decision for a loved one to be cared for within a care home, but our team always encourage family and friends to ask as many questions as they need to. This helps them to understand the process and to feel more comfortable that their choices are being made for the right reasons.
“Our residents are well cared for by a diverse team with many years of experience who each bring something new and different to the table, but all with a shared focus of making Westerton a comfortable and wonderful home for its residents.”
